Hi, my name is Rebecca G Fry, and I am writing this blog to track my progress in creating my media studies magazine. I am in the tenth grade at Monarch High School, and one of the select students enrolled in their Cambridge program, which I am extremely thankful for this opportunity to improve my education. For my AICE elective, I decided to choose Media Studies because I enjoy the concept behind marketing, making a product as appealing as possible, influencing people in ways they don’t even realize. Going into this class I feel relatively prepared, as in middle school I was a part of my school's yearbook design class, so I have experience working on formatting and making everything as nice as possible, but I have never done it on my own, only in groups, and I have never had to be the one producing the ideas, only ever the one executing them.

Exercise: Look at a magazine cover. What can you tell about the type of magazine it is; what kinds of articles it contains; who is likely to read it? Why?
I can tell that this is a fashion magazine because of the ‘cover lines and kickers’ and how they all talk about makeup, shoes, and clothes. It even states that there are prom coupons inside the magazine. I imagine the articles are all telling young girls how to make themselves look more ‘attractive’ and improve their style. Teenage girls are the target audience which I can tell because it is talking about prom dresses, makeup, and overall just tips for your appearance which happen to be more feminine things. This exercise is likely to elicit responses which focus on:
