Rebecca Fry's Blog On
After I had my ideas all put onto the spreads, I pulled out the files of the Cover Page, the Table of Contents, and the two-page spread to compare them. There were some changes in font and sizing that I added to make it clear that the pieces were all a part of the same magazine. I also changed the colors of certain bodies of text, so that main texts and titles were all in black, image sources were all in white, and smaller details were in a blue shade similar to the one all of my images possess.

Revisiting the first page of my double page spread, I reread and revised my writing, making the information as concise and eloquent as possible. Seeing how the words and images lined up I decided to choose a few more layout options and copy and paste what I already had to compare my options, and I ended up choosing a layout where the text was on the top, with two images on the bottom. I had some issues getting the images I wanted to fit with the layout nicely, but the image sizes did not fit well, so instead of having two grainy images of the paintings, I replaced the two small images with one larger image, effectively eliminating the issue of their poor sizing.
After deciding on what to do, I chose which of his paintings I would like to use as examples and picked out three of which had matching color schemes. I choose a three-image layout where they are stacked on the right of the paper, with all the text on the left. I wrote up a rough draft of my paragraph describing the theory, and another describing how the images I chose reflected it. I finished the rough draft for the first page and put the images and text onto the layout, and I recognize it needs to be cleaned up, but I am happy with the outcome so far.
After some though I believe that it would be of the same result to try something else, maintaining the concept of showing a practice through Van Gogh's personal usage of it, but without tainting the original art with messy lines and my notes. It would be messier than I would allow on my magazine in the end. I have been researching other concepts to put in the place of anatomy, such as distance and perception from his paintings, which could be described through a text besides the image rather than a diagram on the actual image.
After receiving feedback on my initial two-page spread, Mrs. Fuller advised that I make my two-page spread related and suggested changing the anatomy guide to something with the same concept which also related to Van Gogh in some way, so the two pages would seem more aligned. My current idea for replacing the slide would be to download an art app on my sisters iPad and show off the anatomy of an example from a Van Gogh Painting.
